“Start by doing what is necessary, then what is possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible.”
Alexandra Dompier, 11, and Lucy Miles, 11, are students in the 6th grade. Having met at 5 years old in pre-school, they have been friends for 8 years. They play soccer together on their township travel team. GO SPARKS!
In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, they were watching the 2013 Hurricane Relief Concert and saw all of the pictures of the displaced pets. Alex grew concerned and asked Lucy to join her in a mission to help as many of these pets as possible. They got together and quickly formed the “Do It Duo for Pets”, drawing up a flyer and a quick doodle of a paw print, they began collecting supplies and quickly grew their simple mission into an organization.
In addition to being named Kid Heroes by the national organization Kids are Heroes, and serving as Junior Members of the Burlington County SPCA, they are also New Jersey Chapter Presidents of Kids Against Animal Cruelty. They have been recognized by the Salvation Army and wont the Governor’s Youth Service Award.
The girls have a combined 7 dogs, 1 cat, 1 guinea pig and several fish. Alex has 3 rescues and Lucy has 1.
